I have been a hospitalist for 15 years. I am a clinician educator and practice in an academic setting. My interests include evidence-based practice, resident education, QI and safety, and healthcare administration. I was recently appointed as the Division Chief of PHM at UTSW Medical Center & Children’s Health Dallas, TX. I find this role professionally rewarding.
Patient safety and faculty development are very important for me. The best part of our jobs is earning trust of a parent (stranger) to care for their child. That trust holds us accountable as our complex systems are not failure proof. So, delivering on that trust is important to me every day. I have been fortunate to get mentorship, so opening doors for professional success of our junior faculty is meaningful to me.
Mentorship and sponsorship both at local and national level have shaped my career. Dr. Mary Ottolini and Dr. Glenn Flores were my first mentors and they taught me discipline, time management, scholarship, building my professional brand, and helped network nationally. I have had over 15 mentors and 5 sponsors.
Tea…a hot cuppa before or after a call always makes me happy.
